Samantha R. Romero is my 17yr old daughter, she was killed by a drunk driver in the early morning hours on March 21, 2009 along with one of her best friends. The car they were riding in was hit from behind while they were stopped at a traffic light in LaMarque, TX. Jim Howard III is the drunk driver that was driving the car that hit them, he is also a registered sex offender whom at the time of the wreck was in violation of his parole for failure to register his current address in accordance with Texas State law. This is a violation that Mr. Howard had repeatedly violated in his past. Had he been incarcerated for his violation this accident would have never happened. On October 1st, 2010, Jim Howard III was found guilty of two counts of Intoxicated Vehicular Manslaughter & two counts of Intoxicated Vehicular Assault, he was sentenced to 2 life sentences and two 20 yr. sentences.
Samantha was a Junior Stingarette and Cosmetology student at Texas City High. She had many friends and touched the hearts of so many people in her short life. She is the babygirl of 5 children and has 5 beautiful nieces. Alcohol related accidents are all too common and 100% preventable, there are many laws set to prevent DWI's, unfortunately they are just there but not enforced. I encourage everyone to help me and so many more families in our journey to have these laws enforced and set forth more laws that are needed in order to save lives.
